Leopold Auer
1845 - 1930
One of the greatest violin pedagogues of all time, Leopold Auer produced the greatest violin virtuosos: Mischa Elman, Jascha Heifetz, Nathan Milstein, Efrem Zimbalist, Georges Boulanger, Benno Rabinof, Kathleen Parlow, Toscha Seidel, Essy Brown, Max Rosen, Thelma Given, Mischel Piastro, Mark Pester, Oscar Shumsky, Shinichi Suzuki, and many others. Like the great pianist Franz Liszt, Auer emphasized the interpretation, style, violin tone, rather than the technical issues. Tchaikovsky dedicated his Violin Concerto to Auer. In 1918, Auer moved to America and became a violin professor of the Curtis Institute and the Juilliard School. |
