Antonio Caldara short biography
Antonio Caldara was respected and admired by many great composers during his lifetime and after his death. J.S.Bach made a copy of a Caldara’s Magnificat and added a two-violin part to it. Telemann studied Caldara’s church and instrumental music. Haydn sang a number of Caldara’s sacred works and studied Caldara’s masses. Mozart is known to study hundreds of Caldara's canons and used the material in his opuses K555, K557, K562. Beethoven learned from Caldara’s contrapuntal examples. Brahms admired Caldara’s canons and had copies of Caldara’s works. Caldara’s hundreds of compositions earned him a long lasting European fame.
