An outstanding German Baroque organist and composer, Johann Pachelbel had his music education in Nuremberg, Altdorf, and Regensburg before assuming the position of organist of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. In 1677, Pachelbel became the court organist at Eisenach and one year later was appointed organist at the Predigerkirche at Erfurt, the position he kept for 12 years. Pachelbel’s greatest achievement was development of the cantus firmus chorale. Pachelbel had a great influence on many generations of composers.
