An outstanding teacher and composer, D’Indy was the founder of the Schola Cantorum. D’Indy’s prominent students include Erik Satie, Roland Manuel and Bohuslav Martinu. D’Indy refused compensation for his teaching and even funded the Schola Cantorum from his own resources. D’Indy believed that music education must develop the complete musician, that would include the knowledge of music theory, history and theoretical elements of music - not merely the practical skills for music performance.
