Heinrich Joseph Baermann (Bärmann) is regarded as one of the most outstanding clarinet virtuosos of the Romantic era. Heinrich Baermann significantly enriched the clarinet repertoire by influencing creation of numerous composers' works. Famous composers, among them Mendelssohn, von Weber and Meyerbeer wrote works for Heinrich Baermann. Heinrich Baermann was appointed principal clarinetist of the Munich Orchestra. Heinrich Baermann’s son Carl succeeded him in 1834. Heinrich Baermann was an exponent of a new style of clarinet playing. Heinrich Baermann performed on a modern instrument made by Griesling and Schlott which allowed him to play chromatic passages with greater execution than traditional 5 keyed instruments. Heinrich Baermann is the author of many compositions.
