A great French flutist and composer, Francois Devienne, studied flute with Félix Rault in Paris. Devienne played in various ensembles and performed as soloist and orchestra player. In 1780, Devienne received patronage of Cardinal de Rohan. Devienne wrote a very important book 'Méthode de Flûte Théroretique et Pratique'. Devienne was appointed professor of the Paris Conservatoire.
