Mathilde Marchesi short biography
A distinguished mezzo-soprano and voice teacher, Mathilde Marchesi (born Mathilde Graumann) is credited of introducing the Italian bel canto into the 20th century. Marchesi held professorships at the conservatories of Paris, Cologne and Vienna. Marchesi’s most outstanding students include Emma Calvé, Emma Eames and Nellie Melba. Mrs. Marchesi’s huband, Salvatore Marchesi, was a famous Italian baritone.
