George Enesco is regarded as Romania's greatest musician. Enesco was equally outstanding as a violinist, composer and pianist. Enesco played a major role in the the development of music in his native Romania. Enesco spent most of his life in Paris where, in addition to the regular concert activities, he studied composition with Massenet and Faure. Enesco was considered one of the greatest violin teachers of his time. Many of Enesco's students became famous violin virtuosos, among them, Ferras, Grumiaux, Gitlis and Menuhin.
