A student and associate of Arnold Schoenberg, Anton von Webern is regarded the founder of serialmusic.Born Anton Friedrich Wilhelm von Webern, the composer never used his middle names and later dropped von as was ordered by the Austrian government. Webern was a student of the Vienna University where his musicology teacher was Guido Adler. Despite Webern’s technical innovations, including serialization of durations and dynamic levels, Webern wrote in clearly romantic tradition with the respect to classical form. Almost completely rejected in his lifetime, Webern music had a strong influence on the modern generation of composers, like Stockhausen, Boulez, Maderna and even Stravinsky.
