Alexander Konstantinovich Glazunov

(1865 - 1936)

Alexander Glazunov short biography

A great Russian composer and music administrator, Alexander Glazunov was a child prodigy. At age 14, Glazunov met Balakirev who was so impressed by the young pianist-composer, that he immediately introduced Glazunov to Rimsky-Korsakov. Glazunov completed his first nine symphonies by the age 16. A well-know patron of the arts, Belyaev introduced young Glazunov to the great Liszt in Weimar, where Liszt agreed to conduct Glazunov's First Symphony for the first time outside Russia. In 1899, Glazunov became professor of St. Petersburg Conservatory and soon assumed the position of its director.
