Antonio Salieri
1750 – 1825
An important Italian composer, conductor and teacher, Salieri was born in the Republic of Venice. For the last 36 years of his life Salieri served as imperial Kapellmeister in Vienna, the position that made him one of the most influential musicians in Europe. Salieri was a prominent teacher: Beethoven, Schubert and Liszt were among his students. Even though there is no direct evidence that Salieri poisoned Mozart, Pushkin, Rimsky-Korsakov and lately the play Amadeus revived the possible ill-treatment by Salieri towards Mozart. |
