A distinguished Italian Baroque composer, Giacomo Antonio Perti lived and worked in Bologna in the position ofmaestro di cappella, for over 60 years. A very productive composer, Perti wrote a great number of operas and sacred music. Perti enjoyed a wide recognition and respect from the musicians as well as nobility and emperors: Ferdinando III de'Medici, Emperor Leopold I and Emperor Charles VI. Perti was also an outstanding teacher; his students included Giuseppe Torelli and Giovanni Battista Martini.
