One of the most influential composers of his generation, Baldassare Galuppi, wrote more than a hundred operas, many cantatas, Masses, psalms, chamber music and a great number of keyboard compositions. His librettist was a noted writer, Goldoni. Like Vivaldi, Galuppi was appointed music director of the Ospedale dei Mendicanti. Galuppi’s fame all over Europe resulted in his numerous invitations to teach and perform in London, Vienna and St. Petersburg.
