Felix Blumenfeld was a distinguished Russian pianist, conductor and teacher. Blumenfeld studied composition with Rimsky-Korsakov. Blumenfeld assumed the position of piano professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory while keeping his post as conductor of the famous Marrinsky Theater. Recognized as one of the greatest piano teachers of his time, Blumenfeld brought up the most outstanding young piano virtuosos: Vladimir Horowitz, Heinrich Neuhaus, Simon Barere and many others. As a pianist, Blumenfeld was noted for his singing tone and colorful virtuosity. Blumenfeld’s piano compositions are full of passion, elegance and virtuosity.
