Frederick Delius was born in Germany. Originally destined to become a part of his family orange growing business, the young Delius was sent to Florida. It was Florida where Deliusís enormous musical talent was discovered. Deliusís family supported the young composerís study at the Leipzig Conservatory, where Delius met Grieg, who became Deliusís friend and a very strong influence for many years. Delius was admired by Sir Thomas Beecham, who introduced Deliusís works to the British public. The musical characteristics of Deliusís compositions often offer intensive rhapsodic feeling.
